NICHE 2 Pathways: Identifying and Nurturing ICH Entrepreneurial Potential

Work Package 2 (WP2) of the NICHE2 project focuses on uncovering and supporting the entrepreneurial potential of professionals and organizations in the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) sector. As the world shifts towards green, digital, and sustainable economies, WP2 plays a key role in aligning ICH with these transformative pathways—known as the Twin Transition.

Our Specific Objectives

NICHE 2 Pathways is all about strengthening the sector’s capacity to innovate, grow, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development. Our key goals are:

  • Identify the skills and competences ICH operators need to align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • Discover training areas that support greener practices within ICH organizations and businesses.

  • Collect and analyze successful case studies that showcase sustainable and environmentally aware ICH entrepreneurship.

  • Pinpoint the challenges that hinder the green transition in the ICH sector—and propose strategies to overcome them.

The insights we gather will directly shape the project’s training curriculum, ensuring it is relevant, impactful, and grounded in real-world needs. We’ll also match identified skill gaps with the EU’s GreenComp Framework, helping ICH professionals become greener, more resilient, and more future-ready.

Expected Results

  • A transnational needs analysis highlighting training and development gaps for ICH professionals.

  • A GreenComp-based Competence Matrix defining key areas for sustainable skills development.

  • A rich repository of good practices, success stories, and innovative ICH business models.

  • A tentative learning outcomes framework and green competence-building model for future training.

  • A multi-language executive summary and open-access content published on the NICHE2 Upgrade Platform.
